Salt Lake City, UT – On this Veterans Day, I was sent a message by a friend who is gay and an active member of the military. Although they cannot reveal their identity because of DADT, they have a message for us.
Thank you so much my friend. We love you and are in your debt for fighting for us, and we pledge to never stop fighting for you either!
I wanted to share this with you my Eric… I wrote it but cannot post it since I am one of those silenced by DADT. It is based 100% on the real creeds and oaths of the branches of the armed services of the United States.
The Creed of the Homosexual Service Member
I am a silent United States Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine, or Coastguardsman.
I will support and defend the Constitution which guarantees rights to all except those like me.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team who can never know who I am.
I have answered my Nation’s call even though they will not recognize me.
I will never quit. I will never accept defeat. I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I represent the strength and tradition of those who have served in silence before me.
I am a guardian of freedom… even though I never feel its full capacity.
I am committed to excellence and fair treatment of all and hope someday I can be treated fairly.
Before God I swear this creed. I am a defender of my country.
So be it, until victor is America’s and there is no enemy, but peace.
