Utah Representative Urges Leniency For Former Intern / Convicted Rapist

Posted By on November 5, 2012

Utah Representative Wayne Harper, currently running to become Senator Harper, is urging Utah courts to show leniency to his former intern, who has been convicted of sexually abusing a teenage girl.

Eric Ray, former intern to Republican Representative Wayne Harper, was convicted in September of sexually abusing a teenage girl at Brigham Young University. Ray was married at the time, but convinced the young girl to join him in a hotel room where he reportedly made her shower, shave, and then sexually abused her.

PRIDEinUtah has now learned that Ray’s former boss, Wayne Harper, has sent a letter in his official capacity as a state legislator to the probation and parole board, asking for leniency for Ray.

It seems that even here in Utah, we have male elected officials who don’t view rape as the horrendous crime it is. Wonder if Representative Harper thinks it wasn’t a “legitimate” rape?

  1. Chancy Gardner says:

Why would anyone vote Republican with all the moral decay that has happened in their party? Can you be a good Mormon and a Republican in Utah? How long do we, as good people, put up with this corruption in our State of Utah? Has it become a state of denial?
Now is the time for accountability.
Moral decay and wickedness means breaking any and all of God’s laws. Moral decay includes sex, lying, stealing cheating not being totally 100% honest in our dealing with our fellow men.
Watching the politics in this state over the years, I have come to realize the Republican Party has become the party of hypocrites, self-righteousness, and everything in between. When President Clinton had an affair in the White House, the Republicans wanted to impeach him and kick him out of office. They did impeach him mostly down party lines. They wanted everyone to vote Republican to teach him and the Democrats in Utah a lesson that the public was not going to stand for it. But here in Utah, when Republican politicians have been inappropriate and immoral in their actions, they then go into a state of denial. They have still been supported and given a standing ovation, as if nothing happened. Isn’t this still moral decay? Isn’t this where the hypocrisies come in?
As Utah has been controlled by the Republican Party and been the super majority for the past 40 years, it’s time for an accounting of the corruption they have been involved in while they still point their fingers at Democrats in Utah as the immoral ones.
Here are some of the facts have been reported in the news over just the past ten years alone. There is more than this and that this just the tip of the iceberg has been reported in the papers.
 A Republican House member, Calvin Bird, was caught with a female prostitute. It’s ok, Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Calvin Bird a standing ovation.
 One year later, another Republican House member, Brent Parker, was caught soliciting a male prostitute. Oops gay offender. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Brent Parker a standing ovation.
 Republican speaker of the house, Mel Brown, had an affair with a girl that was 20+ years his junior and gets her pregnant. Today Mel Brown still serves in the Utah State legislature. I don’t know if this was ever reported in the paper, but it did happen. It’s ok, Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Mel Brown a standing ovation.
 Then there’s Aaron Tilton, the Public Utilities & Technology Interim Committee Vice-Chair. Aaron has a business development company that focuses on two areas: Energy development and electricity. He tried to push a bill through the legislature dealing with a new nuclear power plant in the state of Utah. Oh by the way, he was going to be the principle owner of it. How’s that for public service? Or was it self-service? I guess this is moral as long as you don’t get caught. But it’s still ok, he’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Aaron Tilton a standing ovation.
 Republican House member Greg Hughes bribed other Legislators with $50,000 campaign contributions to buy their vote in favor of the voucher bill. Come to find out in the next election, 2008, there were five legislators targeted by the school for choice PAC, in which they spent large sums of money (close to $50,000) to get their people elected. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Greg Hughes a standing ovation.
 Then remember the 2002 Olympics and all the bribery that went on for years and Governor Mike Leavitt knew nothing about it but, this is a prime time to bring Mitt Romney on board to build his resume so he can run for president. Secret combinations certainly, He also spent 850 million on 14 miles of legacy highway, that is 60 million per mile. Best run state, I don’t think so. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Governor Mike Leavitt a standing ovation.
 Next, Republican Mark Walker, who ran for State Treasurer, tried to buy off his primary opponent with a job and a pay increase, which he said he could get passed through the Legislature. He knew which Legislator was going to help him get that passed? We still don’t know just who that republican was. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican Mark Walker a standing ovation.
 More recently, in 2010 the Republican Senate Majority Leader Sheldon Killpack was arrested for drunk driving after being at a fundraiser for fellow republicans. Who all was there? Who all was getting drunk that night? But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican Senate majority leader Sheldon Killpack a standing ovation.
 To top it off, in the same year the Republican House Majority Leader Kevin Garn confessed he was naked in a hot tub with a 15-year old girl. This is a pedophile. Have any charges ever been brought? Is he on the sex offender list? Remember, he also paid her $150,000 to keep quiet so he could run for Congress that year. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican House Majority Leader Kevin Garn a standing ovation. Oh wait, he already got a standing ovation.
 Immediately following that confession, the Republican Speaker of the House Dave Clark initiated a standing ovation for Kevin Garn on the House floor. Wow, let’s clap and cheer for all the pedophiles, But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s cheer for all the pedophiles and give a standing ovation.
 Brad Dee made threats against Rep. Hansen’s brothers Job, during the 2010 session of the Utah Legislature. Dee, in addition to his legislative duties, is Weber County Director of Human Services. Hansen’s brother, Bill Hansen, is a corrections employee of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican Brad Dee a standing ovation.
 Speaker Greg Curtis used his county owned vehicle to charge for mileage to the legislature. This was known as guzzle gate. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican House Speaker Greg Curtis a standing ovation.
 Senator & Ogden Police Chief Jon Griener knowingly defied federal law to run and hold a Senate seat, even though the federal Hatch Act said that he should not have done so. The cost to the taxpayers of Ogden, 100’s of thousands of dollars, all because of his decision. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican Senator & Ogden Police Chief Jon Griener a standing ovation.
 Let’s not forget our very own Republican Governor Herbert who paid out a 13 million dollar check to the losing bid of the CORE project. He said he didn’t know about it and still let the payment go through, but in exchange, he got an $85,000 donation for his re-election from the winning bidder. That’s a bargain for the $1.275 billion dollar business that they got from the State. (Just an opinion here . . . at 20% overhead and profits, that would be about 225 million for Herbert’s friends.) Then there is the accountability of the DABC, what a mess. But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican Governor Gary Herbert a standing ovation for the best managed state.
 OK here is the best quote of all time from candidate Orrin Hatch running for the US senate in 1976, “What do you call a three term senator? You call him home.” Well that lie went unchallenged in the Republican Party for another 18 years. Now Hatch is 78 years old and wants another six-year term. So what do you call a six term senator wanting another term, you don’t just call him home; you call him to a retirement home. (RETIRED!) But it’s still ok, He’s a republican. Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil. Let’s give Republican US Senator Orrin Hatch a standing ovation.
 The people of Utah were so upset with the standing ovation for Republican Kevin Garn and the drunk driving of Republican Sheldon Kilpack, they then went out and gave the Republican Party a standing ovation of their own by voting for all the republicans in this state in 2010. I guess that now, right now, you have Republican fund raiser, Greg Peterson, the accused rapist, waiting for his standing ovation too. Let’s all call Speaker Dave Clark and see if he won’t lead all Utahans in this standing ovation. Come on, It’s ok, Because the democrats are all about immorality and evil.
 Now, today the Republican fundraising guru Mr. Greg Peterson is facing rape charges. Was it forcible rape or legitimate rape? Does it matter? He’s a Republican, one righteous dude. He is family member to the republicans; he helped us raise thousands to defeat the dirty democrats. He’s innocent. Because the issue is about the democrats, immorality and evil. Let’s all be republicans! After all, you can’t be a Democrat and a Mormon. HOW SAD IS THAT STATEMENT?
Publicly, the republicans will say and do what you want to hear, but behind closed doors their actions speak louder than words; (watch what they do, not what they say,) thus the hypocrisy and corruption. Personally, I would be ashamed to belong to a party that publicly or privately condones criminal and immoral acts of its members. I remember in the Bible where it says by their fruits ye shall know them. We are also known by the company we keep.
Folks, these are the people of our community. Integrity comes from your actions, not from your words. The whole reason that we have elections is so that we will vote for people that will maintain the integrity of the government. If they can’t maintain their own integrity, how do we expect to maintain the government’s integrity? This only happens when our government officials are honest with themselves, those with whom they associate and the people they represent.
It’s obvious these Republicans are living with the consequences of their decisions, but what frustrates me most is the attitude of political entitlement and lack of moral integrity. When they, (Republicans,) run for office, they proudly wear the badge of Vote for me I’m an active Mormon and a Republican, you must not vote for those nasty Democrats, they have no morals. For them, (the republicans,) it’s OK, but Guess what, IT IS NOT OK! The Republicans are behaving in immoral and evil ways. Their Party has made corrupt OK and it needs to be cleaned out, NOW. There is a saying that evil abounds when good people do nothing.
I believe that the good people of Utah will do something about all of this corruption.
Thank goodness we have a choice! Good Democrats and good Mormon Democrats are alive and well in this state! Along with many others, I’m proud to be a Democrat and can hold my head high. I’m proud to belong to a party that genuinely cares about people and stands for accountability; a party that does not believe it is an entitlement to serve, but will serve to better the community and not themselves. Will the People of the Great State of Utah have the courage to stand up to the corruption? Can we take the moral high ground, and choose the right course of action? Can we vote for a Democrat and still be a good Mormon? Yes we can! Yes we can! YES WE CAN!

Now, tell me if I’m wrong, but what did the democrats do that is so wrong in Utah to deserve this kind of punishment or treatment from voters? Is it just plain hatred? Why the fear and hatred of the Democratic Party? Where are the immorality and the evil of the Democratic Party? Has anyone looked at the Democrat’s Platform? It has not been changed in 2 election cycles. The Democrats are not about the immorality and the evil. It is about serving the people for the common good.
